About Me
I am Elliott Appel. This year will be my junior year in high school, which makes me 17 years old. Photography is a hobby that I love far more than any action or words could show. At the same time, I am not terrible at designing web sites. This site was created and is maintained by me. As much as I cherish technology, I still have a passion for sports. Tennis is currently the only sport I play, but I play it all year-not just during one season. I made #2 doubles varsity as a freshmen, #1 doubles as a sophomore and junior year I played #2 doubles again. A few years ago I quit soccer to focus on my tennis, but I still treasure playing every so often.
When I was little I saved up somewhere around $80 and decided I had too much money. So being little and a bit naive I received permission to buy a camera. I always did like how those cool silver fancy cameras looked. The next step was actually purchasing it, so I went to the store and bought a $70 silver camera. I can't even remember the brand now. From there I continued taking pictures as fun. Later on I became more serious. My next camera included a little 2.1 megapixel Olympus with a huge zoom. The reason I chose this camera was because it had a 10x zoom and I was preoccupied with getting close up shots. Following that camera was my first slr: a Nikon N75. This camera served me well to learn film, but with the digital age developing I sprung for a Nikon D70. Since my purchase of the D70, my N75 has not seen much action. It gets its occasional pity use, but other than that, sits sadly in a closet. A little while back I purchased a Nikon D200, which is what I primarily shoot with now.
Two summers ago I went to New York for a photography camp for two weeks, which is taught by Tom LeGoff. I cannot express how wonderful of a man he is and how spectacular it was to learn from him. Tom was not the only one I learned from. In addition, I was taught my AJ Soto and Josie. Josie taught dark room developing at Long Island University, which was my first time developing film and creating prints. AJ was Tom's teacher assistant; he helped mostly with lighting, a bit of developing and Photoshop, and assisted with any trips we went on.
